The symbolism of Water baptism
Baptism symbolizes our death, burial, and resurrection with Jesus Christ. It is an act of obedience that signifies the believer’s faith in Jesus Christ, our crucified Savior. Being buried in the water represents a believer’s unity with Jesus Christ in His death. Being raised out of the water signifies the believer’s new life in Christ.
Jesus told us to be baptized
It is commanded for those who have repented and believe in Jesus Christ to be fully submerged in water to represent dying to sin and being raised to a new life in Christ. This is our public testimony indicating that we identify with Jesus Christ and that we have new life through the cleansing and forgiveness of our sins.
